NLD  patron U Tin Oo has been hospitalised since May 17 after slipping in the bathroom of his house. He is currently in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of Yangon General Hospital.

According to sources, the 91 year old NLD patron slipped in the bathroom of his house on the night of May 17 and lost consciousness. He was then brought to the hospital.

Doctors say he suffered a cerebral infarction (stroke).

“We assume that he has a cerebral infarction, a condition where there is a block inside the vessels that supply blood to his brain. That’s why, he is unconscious most of the time and is being taken care of at the Intensive Care Unit,” said Dr Aye Ko Ko, head of YGH.

He also said the first three days are critical as doctors are closely monitoring his brain functions.

“His chances of recovery are currently 50-50. The situation is now a little better than it was previously,” he said.

The underlying cause, Dr Aye Ko Ko said was because U Tin Oo has “heart disease and hypertension’.

“His age may also have contributed to this incident,” he added.

U Nyan Win, a central executive committee member of NLD who was at the hospital yesterday evening, said U Tin Oo was mostly unconscious throughout his presence.

“As what the doctors have said, his condition is worrying,” he said.

Yangon regional chief minister U Phyo Min Thein visited U Tin Oo’s ward yesterday. He then led a prayer service with members of NLD party at the Shwe Dagon Pagoda dedicated to the party’s patron.
