KPK chairman Agus Rahardjo also confirmed Wednesday’s operation, and said details of the bribery case will be officially revealed on Thursday.

It is believed Batubara District Head Arya Zulkarnaen received bribes for several projects being managed by his administration.

Several heads of local government offices and businessmen were allegedly also involved in the bribery case.

KPK spokesman Febri said the people arrested were immediately brought to the North Sumatra Police headquarters for interrogation, and will later be flown in to the KPK headquarters in South Jakarta.

“We have up to 24 hours to charge them,” he said.
